With a jury explanation that it is an extraordinary and shattering masterpiece, the 13th ZFF Golden Pram Award went to the Hungarian film Son of Saul by Lászlo Nemes. The Golden Pram for best short film went to the French film A Few Second by Nora El Hourch, and the best Checkers film is The Beast by Daina O. Pusić.
Special mentions were awarded in each of the categories, as well. The best PLUS film is the Dutch entry Prince, directed by Sam de Jong, and the HT Audience Award went to the French The New Kid by Rudi Rosenberg.
During the nine-day festival fever, a total of 111 films were screened at six locations. The international competition included 13 features and ten short fiction films, and the Croatian competition in the Checkers section screened 11 films. Apart from the main program, the festival also had 12 special programs.
Although the official competition closed on Saturday, the film lovers will have a chance to enjoy the cherry-picked titles on Sunday, 22 November, as well, at Europa, Tuškanac and Museum of Contemporary Art. After the festival closes, a selection of titles will go on a tour across Croatia. After Art Cinema Croatia in Rijeka and Gallery Cinema in Varaždin, ZFF’s program is travelling to Čakovec Centre for Culture (27-30 November).
All those who missed Mustang and Zagreb Stories will be thrilled to hear that immediately after ZFF these titles will be released in Europa Cinema’s regular line-up, and in the months to come to Son of Saul and Rams will be released as well.
This Year Zagreb Film Festival brought a lot of foreign guests to Zagreb to promote Croatian cinematography and culture. We are very thankful for that, and we can not wait the next year to see its 14th edition.
