These days Museum of Arts and Crafts is hosting an awesome eye candy for anyone who loves good design. From visual communications, interaction, digital, packaging, product and industrial, to spacial, graphic, fashion, concept and activist design, best works from Croatian designers in the years 2015/2016 are showcased at the Design Biennial held there. It’s a central industry event hosted by Croatian Designs Society, the umbrella organization of the profession here, that starts with an award ceremony.
Each category of design is given an award, but the one to aim for is the grand prix, given to the best realization of a concept no matter the category. We’ve written about the nominees this year, and were especially proud of Design District Zagreb, a project Just Zagreb collaborated with, for being among the selected three including Nomen/For Use and Louvre Sans/Sarif.
They were all great projects in their own right, and we at Just Zagreb are happy to say we can be proud again. Design District was recognized as the best design concept created by Croatian designer in the last two years! The biennial awards were given at the opening of the exhibition Croatian Design 1516, on September 13th.
The exhibition itself consists of 169 professional and 44 best student designs created in the last two years.
‘Goal of the project is to have an authentic documentation of a moment in design profession and display to the audiences an encompassing view of the high standards and relevant tendencies in Croatian design as a backbone of the profession’s standards. With a strict selection of works applied to the exhibition we separate and give value to the best of contemporary local design, from market focused projects to those created for non profit, cultural and research instances. Aside from professional works, the exhibition features best works created by students of design collages, as a way to encourage the best of future professionals’, said Mirjana Jakušić, director of the exhibition at the opening.
I you want to check out what some of the best Croatian designers have been doing for the last two ears, you can do so until October 16th at Museum of Arts and Crafts, Marshal Tito square 10.
