European Men’s Handball Championship to be held in Croatia

After eighteen long years, the European Men’s Handball Championship will be held in Croatia again, and it will be the first time that one country hosted these great games for the second time.

From 12 to 28 January 2018, the handball teams will show their sports and team skills and fight for the Champions of Europe title. Four Croatian cities will be hosts – Zagreb, Split, Varaždin and Poreč, and while all the cities will hold the group phase of the competition, the main phase will be reserved just for Zagreb and Varaždin.

Group A, that will be held in Split will have participating teams from Croatia, Serbia, Sweden, and Iceland. Group B will be hosted in Poreč with participants from France, Norway, Belarus, and Austria. Group C belongs to Zagreb with teams from Germany, Slovenia, Macedonia, and Montenegro, and finally, the Group D in Varaždin where the teams from Spain, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Hungary will battle for their place.

The European Championship will open in Zagreb with first matches being Germany vs Montenegro and Macedonia vs Slovenia. The semi-finals and finals will compete for the Champions of Europe title in the Zagreb Arena.

Apart from the European Championship, the Croatian Handball Federation will be present at Zagreb’s Christmas market and they will be available for questions about the upcoming matches.

The organization will include screenings of the matches from Zagreb Arena at the main Ban Jelacic square for all the fans and those who didn’t manage to get their hands on tickets for Zagreb Arena, and as always there will be a lot of supporting events and happenings there.
