International ballet competition Mia Čorlak Slavenska that gathers 87 dancers from 21 countries will take place at Croatian National Theater, Marshall Tito square, from July 6th to July 8th. The two day competition will end with a gala concert on Friday, when awards will be handed out and an Emmy awarded film Mia – A Dancer’s Journey about the life of the Croatian primaballerina will be premiered.
Mia Čorlak Slavenka, after whom the biennial competition is named, was a renowned Croatian ballerina that saw her largest success in the US. This year’s competition and film mark the 100th anniversary of her birth.
Dancers from Canada, US, Ukrain, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Greece, Italy, Australia, Cuba, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Japan, Moldavia, Spain, Great Britain, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Slovakia and Croatia will compete on the biennial this year, with the jury comprised of famous ballet artists Irek Mukhamedov, Ljubinka Dobrijević and Szilard Macher.
The schedule of the competition is:
July 6th (9am – 9pm): Rehearsals on scene.
July 7th (10am – 10pm): Official competition by categories.
July 8th (8pm): Gala concert, awards ceremony, film premiere.
On July 6th and 7th the entrance to the competition is free, while you can buy tickets for the gala concert at the entrance of Croatian National Theater.
