The festival Jazz.hr/Spring 2019 will be held in Zagreb from 15 to 18 May this year and it will include six concerts in four days. During the festival Zagreb will host the top names of jazz, and the most of the concerts will be in the Jazz & Cabaret club Kontesa.
On the first day of the festival, May 15th, we will have the opportunity to hear new local jazzists, the winners of the ‘New Hopes of Jazz ‘Marjan Marjanović’ contest according to the selection of Mario Igrec selector. The same evening Ratko Divjak, a musician who has been enthusiastic about jazz from early youth will perform with his quartet.
Zadeno Trio, an Italian award winning jazz trio founded in the Netherlands in 2014 will perform on May 16th. Trio, under the guidance of a young, talented saxophonist, clarinetist, arranger and composer Claudio Jr De Rosa from Napoli, includes double bassist Alessio Bruno and drummer Jacopo Zanette.
The singer Vanessa Rubin who studied classical music, but soon moved to jazz has released about a dozen of her own albums where her partners were renowned jazz musicians, including Cecil Bridgewater, Kenny Burrell, Monty Alexander, Billy Higgins, Eric Alexander and Don Braden. Rubin will perform in Zagreb on May 17th with the Jazz Orchestra of the Music Academy under the leadership of conductor Saša Nestorović. The concert will take place at the Music Academy with a start at 7:30 pm. All Stars sextet of reputable American post bop musicians, Black Art Jazz Collective will perform in club Kontesa on May 18th.
The main idea of Jazz.hr is to enable the local audience to enjoy the concerts of the best jazz musicians, to educate young musicians through concerts, workshops and direct collaboration with world jazz stars, as well as to arrange international co-operation.
