Location Scouting: Weekend in Zagreb March 4th/5th

FRIDAY, March 4th

FAT PRESIDENT/GUZVA U 16ERCU/GRUPA TVOG ZIVOTA
Tvornica Kulture, Subiceva street 2, 9 pm

Fat President and Guzva u 16ercu (Crowded in the Penalty Zone) have been on the scene since 1993 with Grupa Tvog Zivota (the Band of Your Life) clocking in 15 years of gigs, and to see them playing together in Tvornica is wish come true for many punks, as the Osijek based musicians rarely play together in Zagreb. Their popularity comes from the fact that they’ve always stayed true to their music, and in the eyes of the alternative scene, have never ‘sold out’.

BALKAN ROCK
Mocvara club, Trnjanski nasip bb, 10 pm

DJ Kneza will play songs from some of the best known rock bands, starting from New Wave and late seventies leading up to modern rock bands, including Azra, Let3, Elektricni Orgazam, Idoli, Haustor, Prljavo kazaliste, Sarlo akrobata, Bajaga, Boa, Film, Zabranjeno pusenje, Dorde Balasevic, YU grupa, Majke, Parni valjak, Psihomodo pop…

THE BEATLES TRIBUTE
Vintage industrial bar, Savska street 160, 9 pm

There’s no need to explain who the Beatles are unless you work as a bouncer at a Grammy after party organized by a young hip hop star. Since that’s not likely, we’re gonna leave it like this.

BARBA RECORDS NIGHT w/ JANE FITZ
Sirup club, Koturaska street 1, 1 am

Jane Fitz has been DJ-ing for over 20 years, most known as a resident for the cult UK Freerotation festival and the woman behind longstanding London evening program Cartuli’s Day. What’s most interesting about her career is the amount of international success she has gained without depending on production, radio shows and labels, but by simply spinning records every chance she gets.

SATURDAY, March 5th

ELEMENTAL’S DAY E
Dom Sportova, Magazinska street, 9 pm

Elemental, one of the most successful hip hop groups in Croatia, is celebrating their 18th year of existence (and promoting their yet to be named upcoming album) with a huge concert at Dom Sportova, revisiting songs from their early days, playing their greatest hits and giving a taste of what their new album is going to sound.

DEA MAGNA
Taboo club, Grgura Ninskog street 2, 11 pm

Taboo club continues to host and present young DJs from the region, this time with Dea Magna, a perspective producer from Belgrade. She’s been DJing for a relatively short time, but her skills don’t come into question when people find out she finished both elementary and high school for piano. In her DJing sets she prefers tech house and techno. Her compositions will soon be published by mTechno Recordings.
