Fall For Sibelius: 150th Anniversary of the Finland’s Most Prominent Composer

This year Finland celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. He is far more than the composer of seven symphonies, a violin concerto, Finlandia and Valse triste – he also wrote a wealth of chamber music suitable for musicians both young and old, songs, and music for different types of choirs. Sibelius’ long life was a great adventure, and his music carries the meaning of freedom, creativity and innovativeness, also expressing the quest for independence and sovereignty. In honour of this special occasion many concerts and performances are taking place in Finland and abroad.

The works and music of Sibelius are also known in Croatia and are often performed in concert halls.  To mark this special occasion in Croatia, the Embassy of Finland, in cooperation with the Zagreb Concert Management, Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka, Hotel Esplanade, Maistra Group and our important partners, has the great pleasure to present ”Fall for Sibelius”, a program of concerts and events taking place in Rovinj, Rijeka and Zagreb.  We believe these high quality musical performances will be received with great interest and enthusiasm in Croatia and emphasize our countries’ mutual love for music and culture, as well as celebrate the warm bilateral relations between our countries.

Embassy of Finland is delighted to present to audiences in Croatia musical performances by some of Finland´s prominent vocalists and musicians as well as a Finnish gourmet experience at the elegant Esplanade hotel.
