The monthly party in one of Zagreb’s more popular galleries ha became a staple of nightlife in the past year, gathering a large and diverse crowd in what might be the best example of FOMA (fear if missing out) in Zagreb. There are good reasons for the hype, but it’s one of those things you have to check for yourself. The vinyl spinning duty for this rendition was bestowed upon DJ Rea, Miss Millie and Pill Jackson.

BACK TO SWING BIRTHDAY SWING

Back to Swing is an association that started regular swing dance nights around Zagreb five years ago, popularizing swing and other retro dance. Now they are holding a three day part around Zagreb celebrating their anniversary starting at Pivana with a swing jam party.

HAND IN HAND – JOINT CONCERT OF CROATIAN AND SERBIAN NATIONAL FOLKLORE ENSEMBLES
Croatian National Theater, marshal Tito square, 8 pm

For the first time in 30 years, the two national folklore ensembles, LADO from Croatia and KOLO from Serbia, are having a join concert featuring over a hundred singers/dancers on stage, promoting the rich cultural heritage of both countries trough traditional dances, songs and melodies.

GUSTAFI
Tvornica Kulture, Subiceva street 2,  9 pm

Gustafi are one of those bands that lift you up with their positive energy, energetic performances and all around fun on their concerts. When one thinks about Gustafi, one thinks about Istria, as their influences are heavily based in the cultural specifics of the region they come from. It really doesn’t matter if you don’t understand Croatian, as their songs are on a heavy dialect not many people outside of Istria can fully understand. Still, no one cares and they remain one of the more popular bands out there, proving that great music truly does transcends any language barriers.

ARTCUSTIC w/ VASIL HADZIMANOV BAND

The talented Belgrade pianist is promoting its sixth, and first live, album Alive, recorded on five different concerts in five different cities. Combining traditional Balkan rhythms with funk, blues, soul and jazz, Vasil brings an eclectic and still elegant performance that defines genre labeling and is a treat for any true music aficionado.

IMOGEN LABEL NIGHT w/ CHARLES WEBSTER, ILIJA RUDMAN & ANTONIO ZUZA
Opera club, Petrinjska street 4, 11 pm

Imogen Recordings are bringing a legend of house, downtempo and jazz (house) Charles Webster to Zagreb. Webster has seen critical acclaim throughout his career, either by his real name or under the pseudonyms Presence, Furry Phreaks and Love from San Francisco, wit publications like DJ Magazine giving his records a score of 11/10. Now that’s some Spinal Tap level of good.

SATUDAY, April 16th

BADEN BADEN La Drouge RELEASE PARTY

Baden Baden are one of the most octane filled rock bands coming out of the incubator in the last few years. Finally finishing their first album, they are set on promoting it all around, starting with a club they started from. It’s an industrial, dirty rock and the audiences have bitten into their energetic performances.

ABOP (After is better then the party – After je bolji od parija)
Tvornica Kulture, Subiceva street 2, 9 pm

ABOP was an underground gem on the party scene for a long time, but have finally reached out to a larger audiences in the last half a year. Playing electronic music, especially drum and bass, on live instruments, their shows are always interactive, spontaneous and really, really make you want to dance. Comprised of musicians from a number of popular bands from different genres,  they’ve formed five years ago by accident, when they’ve met on an after party of a really bad party and started jamming. Thus the name. Finally, they’ve recorded an album and are presenting it for the first time this Satuday in Tvornica.

DIMENSIONS FESTIVAL 2016 LAUNCH PARTY w/ MORITZ VON OSWALD

Starting with a celebration of their fifth edition early, Dimensions festival is bringing one of this year’s headliners to Sirpu as a bit of a warm up. Moritz von Oswald is a techno legend and a pioneer of electronic music with cult projects like Maurizio, Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound behind him, and bringing him to Zagreb is a great start of the summer raves for any fan of electronic music.
