Zagreb Time Machine is a live action role-playing program started by Zagreb Tourist Board a few years ago, and features prominent (and not so important) figures from Zagreb’s history, played by actors and history reinterpretation groups, that stroll trough the streets of Old Town during weekends ready to show and tell tourists how the citizens used to live here, with time periods ranging from medieval to industrial ages.
Some of the figures you’ll get to meet are Marija Juric Zagorka, the first Croatian female journalist; Zagreb’s favorite poet A.G. Matos, paper boys who will give you the ‘latest local news’ from the past, mailmen who will tell you about the streets, Dora and Pavle, Zagreb’s star-crossed lovers, will lament about their fates and how it happened, knights of the Order of the Silver Dragon will take you back to the dark ages of the city, while the city guard will protect you on your journey…
Those are not all the characters, but we don’t want to spoil everything. They will be walking around Old Town every Saturday and Sunday from 5 pm until 8 pm, ready for random encounters and a whole lot of questions from you.
Zagreb Time Machine is also bringing back promenade concerts that were all the rage in the 20ies and 30ies of the past century. They’ll be held on Ban Jelacic Square, and Zrinjevac Park every Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm, and will host different waltz and march bands, operettas, jazz ensembles, evergreens… (more details coming soon).
The whole program starts today, and will be held every weekend until October 2nd.
