Behind this short and interesting name lies the story of ancient Crikvenica dating 2000 years back. Organized in cooperation with the Crikvenica City Museum and the Institute for Archeology, “845⁰C Ad Turres” exhibition is opened at the Zagreb Archaeological Museum.
The exhibition presents the results of archaeological research in the area of Crikvenica and Vinodol. For years, historians and archaeologists have assumed that the ancient road of Ad Turres was on the site of today’s Crikvenica, but apart from the mention of several historical sources and a small amount of mobile finds, there was no real material evidence for this claim. However, frequent discoveries of ceramic on one football field were the incentive for the first trial in archaeological research that started in 2004. The research continued and systematic archeological excavations were heavily underway in 2006 by the Institute of Archeology.
The results of these researches, that is, the discovery of an ancient ceramic workshop with the remains of preserved ceramic stoves and a whole series of different ceramic products, were also a major incentive for the establishment of the City Museum of Crikvenica. Rich material found during archaeological research has greatly illuminated the ancient history of today’s Crikvenica area as well as the wider Vinodol area. A large number of institutions, institutions, associates and a large number of individuals are credited with the results obtained during the long archaeological researches funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Crikvenica.
This exhibition aims to present the results of previous research and raise public awareness of the locality whose importance crosses borders, not just Crikvenica and Vinodol, but takes an important place on the map of ancient archaeological sites in Europe. In addition to the numerous archeological objects that determine the continuity of life in the area of Crikvenica and Vinodol since the Bronze Age, various photographs and video materials, visitors will be able to see the 3D model of the reconstruction of the ancient Ceramic Workshop in Crikvenica.
The exhibition will remain open until June 11th.
