August 2017 Tourism Report: 14% More Tourists, 13% More Nights Spent

The first eight months of this year were record-breaking in all segments, 85 million realized night stays with almost 32 million only in August!

Most of the overnight stays were realized in Istria (23.4 million), Kvarner (15.8 million) and Split-Dalmatia County (15.7 million overnight stays). Following are Zadar County with 11.6 million, Dubrovnik-Neretva with 6.7 million, Šibenik-Knin with six million, Lika-Senj with 2.8 million and Zagreb with 1.5 million overnight stays.

The strategy of the Ministry of Tourism by 2020 states that it will be based on two principles, sustainable development and quality. The tourism has for the first time in history brought almost 100 million overnight stays, and higher than the European average is expected this year, Minister Cappelli mentioned. Region by the sea received the highest number of guests and had 10 to 13 percent growth on average.

‘Soon, we will present a program on the categorization of family accommodation that would raise its quality’ Cappelli announced, pointing out that the goal is to make Croatian tourism as diverse as possible and not rely solely on elite tourism.
