While the Olympics gather all the best athletes of the world in Rio, Zagreb will gather the best from a sport that is continuously, and wrongfully, ignored by the International Olympics Committee – paper plane throwing.
The championship will start on Thursday, August 11th, from 6pm at Art Park (entrance from Mesnička tunnel or Tomićeva street), and will have strict qualifiers. You need to be between 5 and 90 years of age and have to be able to make your own paper plane. Models and throwing techniques are up to you.
The planes will be thrown from atop of Stross promenade towards Art Park and the one that travels the biggest distance will be the winner. And it’s no small thing to win at a championship of this caliber. First prize winner will get free coffee and juice, second place will get juice, and third place will take home a cup of free coffee.
If competitors or the public get hungry from all the physical work they can jump over to the tortilla stand and try out a variety of vegetarian tortillas.
The competition ends at 8pm. All may apply.
