Between the 25th and 27th of November, Arena Zagreb will be the venue for the final Davis Cup match between Croatia and Argentina. The decision that Zagreb should host this final face-off was made by the Croatian Tennis Association, which submitted its candidacy to the International Tennis Federation who recently confirmed the Arena as the venue. Offers to co-organise the Davis Cup final also came from Split and Zadar, but only Arena Zagreb meets the capacity demands and other very strict requirements of the competition. Therefore, for the first time, Zagreb will host the international team event in men’s tennis, in which the Croatian Davis Cup team will be competing for the title in front of a home crowd, facing Argentina in the final for the second time in its history. In its first final in Bratislava, in 2005, the Croatian team, consisting of Mario Ančić, Goran Ivanišević, Ivo Karlović and Ivan Ljubičić, coached by Nikola Pilić, achieved its greatest success by beating the Slovakian team.
The teams of Croatia and Argentina have played against each other three times in the Davis Cup quarterfinals thus far, and Argentina was victorious every time.
