Watch Artist Build Straw Sculptures in Middle of Zagreb

On Tuesday and Wednesday, August 30th and 31st, Osijek based sculptor Nikola Faller and his NGO Straw will build unique large scale sculptures from the titular material at Art Park in the middle of Zagreb.  The two day event will allow visitors of the park to see the process of creating straw sculptures from start to finish and maybe inspire them to take a bundle and do something creative with it.

The idea is to reach out to people and introduce them to land art, an art movement started in the 1960s as a response to artificial, plastic aesthetics and ruthless commercialization in art in which the landscape and the work of art are often intertwined and inseparable from one another, created in nature using natural materials and left to naturally deteriorate in said environment.

The sculptures created at Art Park will remain there until November 2nd, or whenever nature decides to take them down. Whichever comes first.

Faller’s NGO Straw aims to promote both ecological and artistic thinking in communities and tries to inspire creativity by using natural materials one can find around themselves in everyday life.
