Zagreb Becomes the Center of European Water Polo

This spring Zagreb becomes a center of European water polo. Eight of the best European teams will play the finals of the Europa Cup from 5 to 7 April, 2019 at the Mladost pool. The National Teams of Montenegro, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Russia, Serbia, Spain and Croatia will be fighting for a title of a winner of this prestigious European competition.

 

“Our aim is to defend the last year’s gold medal. It will be extremely hard, a very difficult tournament with the best European teams is in front of us. I believe we’re at a good place at the moment and the games we have played recently, especially the one with Serbia in Sisak, give us the right to believe that we can defend the title” – said the coach Ivica Tucak and highlighted: “the most important for us is the first match with Greece because it leads us to the fight for a medal but also because the win takes us to the finals of the World League in Belgrade!”

Ivica Tucak released a list of 16 players who will play against the best in Europe. Marko Bijač and Ivan Marcelić; centers: Luka Lončar, Josip Vrlić and Ivan Krapić; defenders: Marko Macan, Ivan Buljubašić, Andro Bušlje and Hrvoje Benić and attackers: Loren Fatović, Maro Joković, Ante Vukičević, Lovro Miloš, Anđelo Šetka, Xavi Garcia and Andrija Bašić.

The tournament will be opened with a match between Hungary and Montenegro on Friday, April 5 at 3 PM, while Spain and Serbia will continue at 4:45 PM. Italy and Russia will meet at 6:30 PM, and Croatia and Greece will close the first day of the Cup with a match that starts at 8:15 PM. Tickets can be bought through the ulaznice.hr system.
