On 20 and 21 February 2019, the National and University Library in Zagreb organizes its traditional NSK Doors Open Days, as a part of a special program celebrating the National and University Library in Zagreb Day.
National and University Library in Zagreb Day is marked each year on 22 February, the day of the publication of the first Croatian book – Misal po zakonu rimskoga dvora, whose original copy, printed in 1483, is today preserved as a part of the Library’s holdings as one its most valuable treasures.
Guided tours will be organised on both days at 10 am, noon and 2 pm and will include a visit to the Library’s four special collections (Manuscripts and Old Books Collection, Music Collection, Print Collection and Map Collection), Reference Collection, all reading rooms, the closed stacks collection, printing plant and binding division. All interested in visiting the Library as part of this special program should register online.
The NSK Doors Open Days program will also include the presentation of a monograph on the drawings of Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach in the Library’s Print Collection, which will be held on 20 February, starting at 1 pm in the Library’s grand lobby, and include an exhibition of this prominent Austrian baroque architect’s original drawings preserved in the Collection.
The second day will give the Library’s visitors the opportunity to take a closer look inside the magical world of the art of comic strip. A workshop entitled Inside the Comic Strip World, organised by the Library’s Preservation and Storage Department and Print Collection, will be dedicated to the father of Croatian comic strip, the great Andrija Maurović.
The NSK Doors Open Days program will also include a special presentation of the Library’s services in the digital environment, and the Library users will be able to return all overdue titles free of charge!
