Sljeme Ski Season Opens With Free Ski Passes For Everyone

With the first days of new year, Zagreb had got its first real snow of the season. Finally, Zagreb had turned into the white and peaceful city so many locals adore. But the calm and quiet, almost contemplative atmosphere on the streets is not the only thing locals were looking forward to. This much snow means that the ski season on Sljeme can start. And we do love our winter sports, so much so that more than 200 000 people had left Croatia on the first day of the new year, heading to their favorite mountain resorts around Europe.

Those from Zagreb that did not go can relish in the fact that skiing conditions on our own ‘mountain’, Medvednica, are good enough to start the season off. It officially starts tomorrow, January 5th, and everyone gets a free ski pass for the day. Only Crveni spust (Red slope), considered the most difficult, and its ski lift will officially open tomorrow, so bring your skills with you for that one.

Other, easier slopes will open in the coming days. Their working hours are from 9 am to 4 pm, with night skiing on Thursdays and Tuesdays from 7 pm to 22 pm.
Daily tickets cost 100 kn on weekends and 70 kn on weekdays for adults. Children and those older than 65 get special discounts.

Sledding, on the other hand, can be enjoyed on smaller slopes next to mountaineer homes around Sljeme for free.
