Zagreb Students Join ‘FridaysForFuture’ Movement

On Friday, March 15th, Zagreb is joining more than 800 other cities in the global protest of high school students. The protest starts at 12:30 at the European Square (Europski trg) in Zagreb and continues to the St Mark’s Square, where Croatian parliament is located.

School Strike 4 Climate, or FridaysForFuture, is a global student movement launched by a 16-year-old Swede Greta Thunberg. Students do not want to go to school because they feel it is pointless to educate themselves if there is no future where this knowledge could be applied. With the worsening Climate Destruction the aim of going to school starts being pointless. Students ask themselves: “Why study for a future, which may not be there? Why spend a lot of effort to become educated, when our governments are not listening to the educated?”

Croatian students warn: “Earth has 11 more years to reduce the global emissions by 50% to halt further temperature rise. We are fighting for ourselves, our future and the future of the whole world”.
