‘Europe on the Edge’ is the theme of this year’s 12th Subversive Festival, which will be held from May 5th to 18th at several Zagreb locations with an accompanying contestant (Wild Dreamer Award) film program, and more than a hundred guests – world intellectuals, artists, filmmakers and activists.
Out of the very rich festival program it is important to highlight the arrival of the some of the most prominent French philosophers and writers: Didier Eribon (Returning to Reims), Geoffroy de Lagasnerie (Penser dans un monde mauvais) and Edouard Louis. As well as the one of the feminist authors, Tithi Bhattacharya (Feminism for the 99%: A Manifesto), Sara Farris (The Rise of Femonationalism) and American philosopher Jodi Dean.
The 12th Subversive Film Festival will be held from May 5th to May 12th and will feature over 50 film titles in documentary and short film competition. In addition to the competition, this year we are awaiting a rich supporting film program. In co-operation with the Museum of Contemporary Art, as part of the program ‘Resistance Cinematography’ there will be presented the project of Sabina Mikelić, a multi-channel installation named ‘Beyond the Choir’. The author emphasizes that her “film frame is real, just like life itself. I let it live its life, enabling it to break through its frames – out of the film into life and from life in the film. ”
During the 12th Subversive Festival, there will be held a series of book promotions by local and foreign authors such as Didier Eribon, Geoffroy de Lagasnerie, Pavle Levi, Marguerite Duras and Jean-Luc Godard, Alain Badiou, Ana Peraica, Sara Farris and Tithi Bhattacharya.
