A New and Greener Edition of the Sava Sun Deck with a Solar Beach

A glance into the future, a peek into the past, and enjoyment of the present – this is the Green River Festival, entirely in sync with nature. It opens its doors for you on the grassy plain near the famous Zagreb’s Hendrix Bridge, and from September 20, 2020, it will happily accommodate all its little and big visitors on the Sava bank. An excellent and versatile sports activities program by Decathlon, attractive workshops for kids and adults, as well as the smart zone, are designed to offer an irresistible entertainment gathering for many visitors. Zagreb is the first host of this Festival that will take a tour of the biggest Croatian rivers (Sava, Drava, Dunav) starting from the next year. This event is organized by the Priroda za sve association (Nature for all) and sponsored by the Medvedgrad beerhouse, Flixbus, The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, Toma pallets, and Svijet trske (The World of Bamboo).

The Zagreb’s Sava sun deck used to be a popular meeting point, a place for hanging out and falling in love. Unfortunately, it does not exist anymore, but the memories and authentic live footage are preserved in the well known Croatian film Tko pjeva zlo ne misli, which will be shown on screen on September 2. An unavoidable part of the Sava sun deck was Babinjak, a women’s corner of the sun deck that this festival will re-invoke, along with the legendary Miss Sava contest. It was entirely built from recycled materials by the members of the Priroda za sve association. It will accommodate a number of remarkable ladies, whose “signatures” are the signatures that matter – an excellent and creative entrepreneur Kristina Ercegović, as well as young Ena Rajić and her string of verses to get closer to you, to name a few. If you ever wondered how to integrate the past with the beauty of the present moment and new technologies, this is your opportunity to get the feel on solar deck beds while listening to the music played on the solar stage and refreshing under solar showers.

The festival organizer, Ana Rosandić, is proud to announce that one of the goals of the Festival is to introduce the wide public to the practical implementation of renewable energy resources, as well as effective solutions for the future, and also to inspire people to use them at their homes. A long-term Festival goal is to secure electricity for the whole Festival by using renewable technologies and to become entirely independent from the network system. This is the way to minimize the carbon footprint and to contribute to the global initiative to stop climate changes – a burning issue of the modern world.

Once a week, this Green oasis will feature thematic dancing venues, and the evening will be reserved for DJs, Jeboton ansambl and many others. The youngest visitors will get a chance to participate in creative workshops along with a daily opportunity to design masks (#reusedontabuse) from recycled materials and to enjoy games without borders that are also open for those young at heart. VR glasses merge the past and the present through images of the river Sava. Also, those eager to test their agility will have an opportunity to try the slackline. Food-lovers will have a chance to enjoy craft beers of Medvedgrad beerhouse as well as local specialties stuffed langos, Frkavci, sweet and savoury green rolls, and special cocktails, Green River and Solar Sun. Furthermore, on September 12, as a part of the Fishermen Night followed by the concert of the popular band Stampedo, irresistible flavours of carp on a spit will be here to tease your palettes.
