Each year on November 1st, Croatians celebrate All Saints’ Day, a holiday that honors all Christian saints and particularly those who have no special feast days of their own. All Saints’s Day, also known as All Hallows Tide, All Hallows’ Day or Day of the Dead is a public holiday in Croatia, which means that schools and most businesses are closed.
On this day, people usually visit the final resting places of their loved ones and to honor those who have left them they are carrying bouquets of flowers and candles at the cemeteries.
The next few days are probably the best to visit old Croatian cemeteries such as Zagreb’s Mirogoj as it will be glowing, decorated with flowers and candles.
