In cooperation with GfK – market research center, Mastercard has conducted an online research among card users between the ages of 18 to 55 in Croatia.
With more than 1000 islands, numerous beaches, clean sea and rich cultural and gastronomic offer, Croatian coast attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world each summer. It is actually the most popular destination among domestic tourists.
According to the research 62% of survey subjects spends their summer vacation somewhere on the Croatian coast. Around 46% of them will stay at private accommodation, 41% will stay at their own real estate, 12% chooses hotel accommodation and only 6% will choose camping.
As the main source of information about tourist destinations they cited Internet and apps such as TripAdvisor. Other sources are friends, family- 41% and tourist agencies- 12%.
The main factor in choosing destination are expenses (77%) and friends and family recommendations (51%). Important factors are also distance of the location (38%), online reviews (31%), safety (26%) and local offer (26%). As the most important characteristics respondents state accommodation expenses (61%), price and quality ratio (59%), climate conditions (39%), travel expenses (39%) and so on.
