Celebration of City of Zagreb Day

The feast of Our Lady of Stone Gate (cro. Kamenita vrata) is celebrated each year on the 31st of May when a ceremonial procession is organised and, as she is the patron saint of Zagreb, the occasion is also used as the City of Zagreb Day.

The celebration program starts on Friday morning, when in the ZET (Zagreb Electric Trams) will introduce four new panoramic buses that are going to be used for a tourist sightseeing tours of Zagreb. On the occasion of the City of Zagreb, the buses will, immediately after the presentation, be put on a promotional, free ride for citizens from the bus stop in Bakačeva Street.

The entrance to the most of the city museums will be free, and the Zagreb City Libraries are joining the celebrations with a release of a new service ‘e-books’.

A rich program is also prepared by the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb, which, among other things, organizes free city tours.

Traditionally, the city of Zagreb Day will be celebrated with a procession with candlelight and bearing the statue of Mother of God from the Cathedral , starting from Kaptol, through Bakačeva, Ban Josip Jelačić square then Mesnička street, St. Mark square to the Stone Gate. The celebration program starts at the Zagreb Fountains when the visitors are expecting a concert of Croatian singer Miroslav Škoro and the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra at 9 pm.
