Krka National Park lies within Šibenik-Knin County, and covers a total area of 109 km² of the loveliest sections of the Krka River, and the lower course of the Čikola River. Krka is the 22nd longest river in Croatia that springs in the hills of the Dinara mountain range and with its seven waterfalls and a total drop in altitude of 242 m, the Krka is a natural and karst phenomenon.
National Park Krka walking trails offer a number of different perspectives of emerald and blue waters, that each brings a completely different experience but always new and always interesting. The ‘Među Gredama’ canyon is definitely among the loveliest sights in the national park. This canyon, cut into the grey cliffs and expanding into the vast lake where Visovac Island rests, is perhaps best viewed at the end of the Rogovo trail (2300m).
A walking trail leads through a gentle wood to the viewing point, and is ideal for a light afternoon walk. After a narrow and steep earthen passage, you will reach the tip of the “horn”, from which the vista expands over the waters of the strait. And while the Krka on the one side is compressed between these tall cliffs, on the other, it opens and expands into the tranquil waters of Visovac Lake, where the Franciscan monks have been living in peace and prayer in the shade of the poplar trees on Visovac Island for eight centuries. In spring and summer, you can explore these waters from waterfall to waterfall in the Krka National Park boats.
