Unprecedented Public Interest for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – ‘The Nutcracker’

Right away from the early morning, the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb got surrounded by the big crowd of people who were interested in watching the ballet performance ‘The Nutcracker’.

‘The Nutcracker’ from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is one of the most accomplished and most performed ballets in the world, and it is an unavoidable part of every magical winter holiday period for many Zagrebians.

During its existence, Zagreb Ballet featured several outstanding premieres of ‘The Nutcracker’ and last time in 2011 in the choreography of Derek Deane. Deane has created this magical ballet story by trying to take the audience to the realm of dreams and to show a world different from ours by following the aspiration of Tchaikovsky to evoke the fantastic, magical, mythical and legendary.

For the occasion of this enormous demand for tickets by the public, the Intendant of Croatian National Theater, Ms. Dubravka Vrgoč emphasized:

“Today’s interest for ‘The Nutcracker’ proves that the theater in Croatia is extremely important, and even in these times, where some values are marginalized, the theater succeeds to become the center of interest of Zagreb’s citizens.”
