I Want To Ride My Bicycle I Want To Ride My Bike – Zagreb Bike Stats

The City of Zagreb has done a great deal over the past years to keep up with other developed European metropoles – keeping the city safe and clean, creating and maintaining a good infrastructure, working and preserving popular hotspots for its residents and other visitors etc.

Euronews recently published cycling statistics and Zagreb came out almost on top when it comes to infrastructure and the number of people (10.1%) that use a bicycle as their go-to vehicle for transportation, naming it ‘bike friendly’ capital. More precisely, Zagreb took the sixth place after Copenhagen (35%), Amsterdam (32%), Berlin (13%), Ljubljana (12%) and Helsinki (11%).

It became obvious that Zagreb caught up with growing European cycling trends and is sure to continue this trend due to frequent upgrades in cycling infrastructure. Some European cities are opting to build ‘bicycle superhighways’ or fast lanes for bikes, and the European Cyclists’ Federation has created an ‘EU Cycling Strategy’ with the goal of increasing the proportion of bicycles in transportation to 12% and Zagreb is well underway to achieve that goal.
