Spectacular, historical and unique. Three powerful words, and yet still not enough to describe this year’s InMusic Festival on Lake Jarun. Why is that? Because for the first time, the festival organizers are preparing something most of us have never seen before.
On Jarun, as a part of the 11th InMusic Festival, engineers will build an impressive and unique replica of the Tesla Tower, also known as the Wardenclyffe Tower, which was demolished 99 years ago. An authentic replica will be slightly lower than the original tower, but will continue to be the highest building erected on the Jarun islands. The thirty-meter high InMusic Tesla Tower will be the first structural replica ever built in the world and for that reason it will certainly be an attraction among the world public. This InMusic Festival unique project was made to honor two incredibly talented people who left an indelible mark on humankind – Nikola Tesla and David Bowie. In the year that marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest scientists in the history, Nikola Tesla, and when contemporary culture lost one of the most creative and influential artists of our time, David Bowie, the most famous Croatian festival decided to pay tribute particularly to these great artists. The InMusic replica of Tesla’s tower will combine science, culture, art and education and will function as a separate unique audio-visual stage.
„This unique festival stage with a capacity of about 200 persons will be located in the 12-meter-diameter tower itself, making the tower equally impressive inside and out. Inside there will be a different 360° audio-visual projections of David Bowie and Nikola Tesla. The audience will enjoy a combination of excellent music and visual art“ said the video artist doc. art Ivan Slipčević.
The Zagreb replica will be twice smaller than the original, but with the same complex construction. The tower with a dome has about 25 tons of steel and a total of about 3500 steel parts. The structure will have about 4000 screws and special foundations made of reinforced concrete blocks which are segmented into heaps of 6, 10 and 12 tons. This project costs about 800,000 kuna, and will become a symbol of InMusic from now on. This year, InMusic Fstival will welcome Florence + The Machine, PJ Harvey, Gutterdämmerung featuring Henry Rollins, Jake Bugg, Skunk Anansie, The Kooks, Wilco, Django Django, Pennywise, The Coral, Yeasayer, The Heavy, Kawasaki 3p and much more. InMusic # will be held on June 20 the until 22nd. Tickets are available through the official festival web shop.
