March: The Month of Francophonie

March is already traditionally the month of Francophonie in Croatia and this year nothing has changed. Total of 150 events aimed at promoting French language and culture will be held in 11 Croatian towns, and diverse programs have been prepared by the embassies of member-countries and observers in the International Organisation for Francophonie in Zagreb.

The programs prepared by the embassies of France, Belgium, Canada, France, Romania, Morocco and Switzerland include poetry reading, concerts, exhibitions and film screenings. The Francophonie Month started yesterday, on the March 5th in the Zagreb’s club Sax with the concert of Pierre Guitard and Menoncle Jason, an event supported by the Canadian embassy. On the International Francophonie Day – March 20, the French Institute in Zagreb will offer a rich program, visitors will be able to attend and participate in poetry performance where poetry will be invited to the street.

Throughout the March Tuškanac cinema in Zagreb and Embassies of the Francophonie countries will offer a cinema program on youth topics and screen films such as: L’Esquive (Games of Love and Chance) by Abdellatif Kechiche (France, 2004) – movie awarded with four Cesars, Entre les murs (The Class) by Laurent Cantet (France, 2008) – winner of the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008, Les Chevaux de Dieu (Horses of God) by Nabil Ayouch (Morocco, 2012) – awarded at 12 different festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival and much more.

Other Croatian cities that join in the celebration the Month of Francophonie are Split, Rijeka, Osijek, Dubrovnik, Koprivnica, Križevci, Omiš, Samobor, Varaždin and Zadar. For the full program click here.
