Last Saturday, Jarun Lake was occupied by the spectacular Maraton Lađa (rowboat marathon). It is an amateur sports competition with autochthonous vessels from the valley of Neretva and was organized for the second time on Jarun Lake.

The event started at 6 pm with 20 competing rowboats. It was a partly humanitarian event where visitors could, besides enjoying the race and hanging out with boatmen, donate their blood.

The boatmen could test their endurance on 9,6km long track and the team that crossed the finish line first was team Gospa Karmelska Krvavac. The second position was taken by Argonaut Bjelovar and the third one to reach the finish was team Gusari Komin.

The story about Maraton Lađa has a long tradition. Originally it’s an amateur sport event which starts at Metković and finishes in Ploče (22km long race). Followed by tens of thousands of both locals and foreigners who enjoy this spectacle.
