The Turkish Culture Week, known simply as Turkey Week will be held from May 15 to 18, 2019 in Zagreb, in different venues around the city, including the Archaeological Museum, the Music Academic at the University of Zagreb, the Ethnographic Museum and the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments.
The event, which is organized annually by Turkey’s Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) to promote Turkish culture worldwide, is this year being held under the theme “Göbeklitepe: Human and Life” within the scope of the 2019 Year of Göbeklitepe. Göbeklitepe or the ‘civilization’s birthplace‘ is known as the oldest human settlement, found in southeastern Turkey’s Şanlıurfa.
Turkey Week includes talks, exhibitions, concerts and workshops that will try to convey Turkey’s cultural and artistic heritage to the Zagreb locals. Especially interesting are Turkish cuisine workshops with the famous Turkish chef Ali Açıkgül, and Turkish sherbet and Turkish coffee will be served to visitors who attend the traditional presentations.
The events started on Wednesday when Celal Uludağ, head of the Göbeklitepe excavation committee, held a conference on Göbeklitepe at Zagreb’s Archaeological Museum, the exhibition displaying photographs that tell the history of Göbeklitepe will be on display throughout this week.
